Kaasha Vidyashilp Learning Centre (KVLC) - an institutional member of REACHA, is being run by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) Officers Ladies Club (BOLC). BEL is a Public Sector Undertaking under Ministry of Defence, Government of India. It was born out of a desire of some of the members of BOLC to contribute to the betterment of the underprivileged amongst us. After exploring many areas the idea of a learning center took shape. M/s Ramprastha Builders were kind enough to allow the use of two rooms on the 2nd Floor of the Super Market in A Block Ramprastha. They also donated a few basic necessities to start with and the center started functioning in December 2000. KVLC became an Insitutional Member of REACHA in the year 2004 in order to further enhance and consolidate its activities.

Initially the center had a strength of 25 children. Volunteers from BOLC took turns to conduct classes, the focus being on the learning of the 3R’S, personal hygiene, and good manners. The response was very encouraging and today the center has nearly 75 children on its rolls. The center now has two appointed teachers and two assistant teachers, apart from the volunteers. This year 11 students are being coached to appear for class III exams of the National Open School. Children also participate in co-curricular activities while celebrating Independence Day, Republic Day etc. In 2005 they were taken on an excursion to the Delhi Zoo with the support of REACHA volunteers.

The children attending Vidyashilp belong to economically weak families residing in the neighbourhood of BEL Ghaziabad and its residential colonies. They are provided with writing material, uniforms and other

amenities free of cost. The financial assistance for this venture comes from BOC (BEL Officers Club), BOLC and individual donations from its members and sympathizers.

Encouraged by response from children, and cooperation from well-wishers, KVLC plans to expand its activities to include non-formal education up to class V, and vocational classes.

Recently, Manava Bharati School (MBS) donated a set of 50 desks and chairs to KVLC, as part of REACHA’s “Vidya-daan Scholarship Scheme.” MBS is also an Institutional Member of REACHA.

Also, Sachin Jain, and Kapil Nakra from YPRI, donated NCERT Books and fans etc in 2005, as part of YPRI’s “Birthday Project.”
